Fleet Foxes at The Bowery

So the show at The Bowery last night was great. It was interesting to see how many people were there specifically to see Fleet Foxes — and how many people knew the songs. Yes, it was packed right from 10:30pm.

Robin was getting over the flu, but that had little effect on the vocal harmonies and strength of his voice; the crowd was supportive, and it was kinda funny to see him consider dropping a packet of Emergen-C into his water bottle between songs. Poor guy.

They opened up to someone yelling “this is my jam!” and held audence attention right to the end of their set. On-stage banter was light, but focused a bit too much on the “sorry, I’m sick” side of things. Granted, they had cancelled their show in Boston because of Robin’s flu. I watched a guy in the audience basically pogo his way through 80% of the tracks with a look of rapture on his face, so I’m guessing they will have their share of rabid fanatics.

Blitzen Trapper’s bar-rock really didn’t draw me in. As the tired adage goes, “liked their first EP, but…”. I’d say a lot of the crowd agreed, as the place thinned out after Fleet Foxes left the stage.

I’d love to see them again, as a headliner. I’m sure it’ll happen in the near future.
